This formula can be applied to almost any game to make it more fun. Increase the amount of enemies make the single enemy weaker and the player’s attacks stronger.
Games like Dark Souls go exactly to the other direction. They follow the approach of making every single enemy a challenge itself. That requires more complex AI so i would recommend you the diablo approach if you are new to game development.
